On the Devil

"Screw him. He may have my soul but I have his wallet." --Matthew Sturges on the Devil

On the Devil

A head for the shallow
--At least that's what Ava says--
Status dogs growl
bark!
Race with the Jones's.
(to keep up)

Daily-
grind-
soul-
dust.

looked for peace
(inner glass cut)
I screamed!

Examination self:
Life is too short
To wait and see
What everyone else
will do.

There is no waiting for happiness.

Stepping out (on own)
Bury the wilted Rose
On the Devil's back

Make life my money

And
Thaw my heart
With words.

Blood & Art

Written after reading Abbey #107 (one of my favorite poetry journals) and finishing issue three of Calliope Nerve:

Blood & Art

my
poetry
life
speaks blood art

(loss of pretension)

no capital letters
to adorn her
this pearl-piece
nearly complete

...now breathe...

it in

Falling Ceiling

The landlady hired a contractor to redo the roof, etc. and he didn't fasten a tarp on correctly. You can guess what happened, living here in Ohio, the humidity capital of the midwest. A storm swept through and gallons of water brought down the ceiling in the girls room, drenched part of the basement, ruined possessions...

We were in a hotel for three days. Should be going home tonight.

Not Aikido at Aikido practice

The nicest thing about taking Aikido at an informal school is sometimes we try other things. Though Aikido and it's principles are our focus it's fun to learn new things. We're not locked in by tradition. Mixing it up also keeps the experience interesting. (When I teach, I teach more of an Aikido blend rather than straight grappling, etc.) On Monday, Michael taught basic self defense techniques most of which came from the lack luster e-book The 7 Most Effective Self Defense Techniques.

Here's a list of a few that we worked on:

I. Palm Heal Strikes

II. Elbow Strikes (Vertical Forward, Horizontal Forward, Side, Read, Down)

III. Throat Strikes (Knuckles, Snake)

IV. Eye Gouging (Spear Hand, Thumbs)

V. Groin Kick (Front Snap, Front Thrust)

VI. Knee Joint Kick (Side Thrust to front and to rear of knee, Front Thrust)

VII. Solar Plexus Strikes (Palm Heel, Fist, Elbow, Knee)
