Your Shoes

"Your Shoes"

Your life.
Your shoes.

I put on a different pair
And began to walk.
Every man's dream-
To leave it all behind.

Through the miles-
The forests-
The nations crossed.
The smiles hurt.

Found out the hard way
By Yourself-
You can't run away.

Everyone's an Expert

I don't rant a lot here. Maybe I should. Here's todays rant:

I love when people give *me* dieting advice. Simply love it. Watch your carbs. Watch your fat. Eat eggs. Eat protein. Do Atkins. Snack on fruit. Drink water. Blah...blah..blah...what did you say, I can't hear you because I'm ignoring you. This is hardly meant as a brag, merely a fact. I've lost sixty one pounds since January First. I'm over half way to my goal weight in less than eight months. I don't need advice. I wouldn't mind a pat-on-the-back but I don't need that either. It has to be done so I'm doing it. That simple.

My favorite is when someone who needs to diet gives me dieting advice. Apparently, unbeknownst to me, everyone is an expert...even fat people. It's like this: losing weight is hard work. It means sticking to plan. Exercising. Eating sensibly. Exercising. Resisting Taco Bell and Ice Cream while your co-workers are shoving it down their faces. Exercising. And when you're done exercising, you get to exercise more. So on and so on. If you're fat (like me) and want to get thin (like me) get prepared to bust ass and then do it. Otherwise...shut the he** up already.

Now I feel better.

Nobius Radio On

"I gave my life away. There's nothing left to say." --Seether

"These weeds are grown where the sun once shown. And I can feel it. This space between us." --Life of Agony

"I'd love to love the world again. For the very first time." --Nobius Black

It's scary what wavelengths we all share. If you read the link, you'll see Warren is going to try a cool experiment with Internet Radio. I'm quite enamored with it myself and in coming months plan to do a similar experiment. Though I can't afford to do my own station (Damn, I wish I did!) I will be doing my own audiozine and idea garnered from Don of APA Centauri.

I mentioned it a few weeks ago in a post, and thanks to those who responded. I'm saving my pennies, and something along the lines of Sound Forge will do it for me. Earlier versions of the product are going for less than 70.00 at Best Buy.

My upcoming creation Nobius Radio (naturally, what else would I call it?) will be a collection of music (mostly rarities and my favorites), spoken word pieces, and (if I can learn how to do it) custom tracks. I'll try go keep my blabbing to a minimum...nobody likes long winded shit. In Warren's link above he mentions he wants to recreate the feeling of messing around with the radio dials late at night. More or less that's what I'm thinking of for Nobius Radio only mine would be more like finding the secret frequency to the sound track of hell and tortured minds....a horror film in sound.

Got two great new CD's for my birthday that I'll detail more on later. Run for Cover by Pro-Pain is a kick ass album of metal and punk cover tunes Pro-Pain style. Songs covered include tracks by Slayer, Life of Agony and Sepultura. Dislaimer II is the re-release of Seether's debut CD with additional tracks and a DVD of videos and bonus material. Disclaimer is a fusion of metal, punk, and alternative that moves from melodic streams to hard core grind many times through the same song. If you haven't heard Seether check 'em out...the future belongs to them.

If you know anyone experimenting in creating their own Pirate Radio, Audiozines, or Internet Radio stations I'd love to talk to them. Please pass along to them: Nobius wants to hear what they've got.

And I can hear it now. Very soon. Nobius radio will be on. Music will never be the same again.

Cinnamon Girl

When I tell you I'm a thirty one (almost two) year old metal head/hardcore addict...I kid you not. I had no idea when TYPE O NEGATIVE did Cinnamon Girl it was a cover.

I'm much more well rounded now then I was back in '96 when that came out. Much more. These days I love TYPE O and Neil Young (the latter probably more than the former).

In the meanwhile, I need an intervention. I am truly addicted to Internet Radio.

RSS For Your Head

Every time I step into a library, walk into a book store, or buy a comic at the comic shop I have a similar recurring thought. What if I could read them all? Every last one. Or at the very least every book I want to read.

If only I were a smarter Burgess Meredith trapped in the Twilight Zone with a good pair of glasses and all the time in the world.

If only each book could stream a feed into my mind, a channel direct to my sponge brain to soak it all up. The things I would know!

It would be just like R.S.S. for your head.

Read

I'm currently reading Sex and the Single Vampire by Katie MacAlister. I bought it for my wife a few months back but it looked so good, I had to give it a try. I've read the first twenty five pages and they're good. My wife loved the book and called it "funny". We're both macabre. Seriously. In fact, I'm so macabre I think I'm going to go back to dressing in mostly black. I think my youth is coming back to me. If not, I'm trying to hold onto that which is gone.

What's on your reading list?

Listen

This is what I'm listening to. What are you listening too? Entertain me now.

"Halo" by Soil

I'm the man,I'm the king,I'm the one
That's pure inside
Everyday,everyway I smell of suicide
Bitter sins how they grow within
So you tell me it ain't right
I AM...ALL SINS
And you're my reason for life

I will stone you,stone you
Wrap my arms around you
I will stone you,stone you
My little HALO

I'm the man,I'm the king,I'm the one
That's broken from giving
Everday, everyway I swear just one last try
Killing me with the death to be
Something that's so right
I AM...ALL SINS
My hands are scarred with time

Feel through my eyes

I'm the man with the rock in his hand, got
the rock in my hand gonna stone you stone you

Make a change,gotta rearrange
Idle minds,crushing time
I AM...ALL SINS
And you're the reason for life

Killing in the name of God is quite acceptable, and for some preferred. For it, you will receive only Holy things. Sex, virgins...eternal life.

It will be proclaimed, "We did it for Him." It already has.

America fought back in that same Holy Name. More or less. With His approval. More or less. God is on our side, in case you didn't know. All the while, the angel chant grows stronger. "The rich get richer, starve the rest, let the oil flow."

But God, my prayer to you, so simple. Just tell me who the good guys are. I don't think I can tell them apart.

Work Out

I did a light work out today about 45 minutes to an hour...not sure...

Today's workout reminded me of something my brother Michael's old Sensei once said.  To paraphrase, he said, If you don't have time to do twenty push ups...do five day.  If you start on Monday by Friday, you've done twenty five.   This is much better than doing none at all.

It's that concept, that resides in my head today.  My workout was a spur of the moment thing.  The kids were running around and sometimes under me, while I was practicing but I still got a good sweat and my muscles are stretched and a little sore.  I could of taken the easy road and said, "No, I can't.  I don't have a babysitter."

Instead, I did what I could.   What I should.  This is the road less taken.  It's the one I'm on.  The right one to take.

David Weber

G.W. would of done well to study his history. These two quotes are at the beginning of Dave Webber's wonderful science fiction novel The Short Victorious War. It seems he may of been clairvoyant.

"What this country needs is a short, victorious war to stem the tide of revolution." --V.K. Pleheve, Russian Minister of the Interior to General A.N. Kuropatkin, Minister of War (1903), on the eve of the Russo-Japanese War.

"The belief in the possibility of a short decisive war appears to be one of the most ancient and dangerous of human illusions." --Robert Lynd

Flash Fiction: Spray

"This is what the people say: A trial by fire!" --Testament

"Shake your blood!"--Probot

The spray painted wall warned the world of the grisly reign that awaited it. "Never trust a vampire." ...it said in crimson red...how fitting. Too bad, I didn't notice then, what I know now. The message wasn't in pigma...it was written in blood. Mine would be next.

He bit me there, where he took all his victims. Goes by the name of Spray and wears a mohawk. Even the walking dead, make like the living (especially their own). My confidants tell me he goes for the jugular because he likes the effect. Angry, efficient, messy, beautiful. No cat-and-mouse only the kill. The wall with it's alley -- his hunting ground.

That night was the twelfth anniversary of the Human-Vampric war. Tonight is the twelfth anniversary of my rising.

The Night Masters won, I one of them now. Still, I will find this Spray. And I will lay waste to him. Or my name isn't Reprisal. The hunt has been on since my first day reborn. To live is to obsess. He can't hide forever.

In the end, we all must put down the things of the past...especially the things that made us live. Because to live is to obsess.

I hope this isn't a sign of things to come.

Taglines

Here's a tagline to my own version of the 4400 that I'm contemplating:

For sixty years, we've been searching for THEM. We should of started under our noses.

More specifically the story will be called THEM. They are aliens, and it revolves around my idea that UFO's aren't from some far away planet but rather from advanced civilizations hiding right here on Earth.

The 4400 Review

If you were any where within a mile of a television tonight, I hope that you watched The 4400.

It's not often that good science fiction is shown in the broadcast arena. But this premiere was both impressive and unique. I'd describe the 4400 as Close Encounters meets The X-men.

The 4400 have been gone a long time, but it's a homecoming to a world that wishes they'd never come back. An Earth that is far different from the one they left. What will they do? Where will they go? And what about the strange abilities that are manifesting?

So many lingering questions...like any good story...need to be answered. Where did they go? How did they get back? Who did this? Why did time stop for the abductees? And what happens next?

The core of the show was about relationships. Everything from betrayal to lost love to new friendships were forged from this unlikely event. It's what kept me riveted and I suspect in the end that's what the show will really be about.

Good stories juice my mental adrenaline and I found many inspirations for my own work while watching the show.

I was surprised there weren't any scenes showing direct confrontation between the media and our heroes. That may be a future plot line. If this were real, it would be the story of the millennium and every newscaster would want a piece of the action--at any cost.

Thus far, USA Network has only picked up the series for six episodes. Here's hoping by the time it's over there will be many, many more.

Check out the Pulse interview about Kim Howard Johnson. His varied career started with publishing his own Monty Python fanzine.

I've got some fan fiction I'm working on myself...one involves a Jedi with seven personalities, three sabers, and the thought: What the hell is there to lose when you're the last living member of the Empire? This is a line from my story I love uttered by beautiful and scared New Republic captive..."You are a Jedi. You could have whatever you want. Even me." I love my dialogue by the way. Matt Haughey

Several months ago, Apple released the music software Garageband[1],
allowing anyone with a mac to make some music. Soon after the release,
community websites sprang up to allow Garageband users to share music
with each other, and build songs together. This is a perfect use for
Creative Commons licenses, and earlier we noted[2] that the site
Macband[3] added our licenses to their site. We were delighted to hear
that MacJams has also incorporated Creative Commons licenses[4] into
their song uploading process.

So if you're a Garageband user that needs some drum loops or other
song parts to share, check out Macband[5] and MacJams[6].

Bought a can of SLIM FAST tonight. Going to try to spur more quick weight loss but since it seems I've peaked I guess we'll see. Just think only about 40 plus pounds more to go. And then I get to maintain. Being fat sucks...don't let Santa full you...:)

That we'll lose identity
But the truth is it's dinner time

Adjectives

Pay close attention to the adjectives.

When lost...
There are unexpected directions.
And consequences.
Actions reap reactions.
WE GET WHAT WE CHOOSE
Until fate is chose from above.

Nightime's undesired princess brings light.
God smack on a frightened head.
One way or another, we lose it all
When angels spread wings.

Greatness does not exist.
Only you.
Only me.

A promise is never unless it's kept.
Our world did not lie to you...
She never tells the truth.
(Everyone is living a lie.)
Even Einstein knew his life was an unknown quantity.
Greatness does not exist.

You -- the last of your kind --
Thinking you're more
-- On this Earth made of glass --
Throw the stone that breaks it all.

Should of listened to the adjectives
Now we bury shards.

And this just in...Nick Menza rejoins Megadeth. Let the m-f'in touring begin. Looks like Megadeth is poised to retake the metal crown! And any hopes that Mustaine will reunite with Ulrich and Hetfield may be extinguished.

As for music, I plan to do a lot of internet radio station listening when my connection gets upgraded. Can't wait. There's tons of places out there for metal heads to go and growing all the time.

Here's a cool weblog that tracks the songs of a college hard core station. When I hit it rich, I'm going to own all those CD's. I swear.

Speaking of Internet radio...here's a site that though a little tame for my tastes is definitely on the right track. Bringing music to like minded people. That's what it's all about. I must say, I do like that they're playing WASP. I love Blackie Lawless but the flaming cod piece has got to go.

I appreciate her thinking of me but what job lets you take a vacation day without a two weeks notice. Not one I've ever had. I've worked 2nd or 3rd shift nearly my entire working life so I'd have to take off to go. The other guy I usually work with at night is already going so there goes trying to take a sick day. Even if he wasn't, I doubt I could just call-off...I have this thing about honesty....

Warren blogged this excellent hard core music BLOG. As soon as the high speed is connected, I'll be downloading free MP3's from Nef's many links.

BLOGGER is still having problems. My BLOG is down and I can't publish to it and at the same time Juno is connecting me at a whopping 26.4 KPS! Life is too great to be lived. Too....

Blogger Template Lessons

Good article from BLOGGER on how to customize your template. Something, I still hardly understand but it's on my TO DO list.

The Kickstart Alerter

Check out this take on a site update notification program (like BLOGLINES). Very cool indeed, even if I don't understand how it works. The program is actually customoizable/fully brandable to your site only. Here's the actual program: Don't Miss a Thing. I love whizz bang technology. File this post under: ideas for the future.

Holiday Blogging

Seems every holiday weekend BLOGGER/BLOGSPOT has problems.

Today, BLOGSPOT is updating at least twenty minutes behind on posts....

Wonder if it will crash?

Ahh...the wonders of push button publishing.... :)

Picnic Food

Other than beer...does anyone really like picnic food?

Someone must...but Nobius does not. Nor do my spawn. I have descriptions for macaroni salad that may be juvenile but are quite apt.

The fourth is always hot. It's about 90 right now with 85% humidity...it's like walking through a swamp.

When I'm president, the Fourth moves to October...:)

Hospitals bilk uninsured

Hospitals bilk uninsured.

On a serious note...something I feel very passionate about...the reform of heath care in America. So serious, that I may run for office someday to try to change it. Try even getting health care if you have no insurance. I've been there. Want to feel like dirt...walk into an American hospital and say "I'm uninsured."

Getting High

Um...well it's not the wacky tobakky stuff...I hate drugs. I'm finally getting high speed internet. DSL to be exact. I think my installation kit will arrive in two weeks. Roadrunner is still way too much. I'll let you know how it goes but I can't take dial up any longer.

Streaming

Seems like Warren Ellis has yet another new online column. Obviously, I'll be checking in to see what he has to say. The first column is a good jumping on point for new readers but for the Warren obsessed like myself it's a rehash. Maybe just maybe we'll get lucky and he'll talk more about his creative process (which may simply be a massively bipolar brain, a touch of craziness, and a side of Red Bull...lol). You can check out the column here: Streaming.

Think I may be doing a Warren Ellis special for the APA.

The 4400

Can't wait for the The 4400 to start next week on USA Network. I watch as little TV as possible but I love Sunday Sci-Fi and when X-Files left the air there wasn't anything even close until USA started showing The Dead Zone. That series is great and now it looks like The 4400 will be the perfect compliment.

Over the last 50 years thousands of people have vanished.... On July 11th they're coming home....

Links-O-Plenty

I've cleaned up my links again and am looking to trade links with people who enjoy my blog. Never had much luck with this.

Also, looking for cool site URL's. Nobius requires entertainment.
