Hero

After all this time,
I'm still hurting.
I still need you.
You didn't need a cape,
or a badge.
Every Daddy is a Hero,
To his kids--
You only needed to be there.
Hero.
I'm sorry I didn't tell you.
No one ever told you.

Nobius Blank

On those days that I suffer from writer's block, I remember something Gene Fowler once wrote. He said, "Writing is easy. All you do is stare at a blank sheet of paper until drops of blood form on your forehead." Perhaps someday I will write a post entitled: "Nobius Prolific." Until then, I'll be bleeding profusely from the head. Is there a doctor in the house?

the death of you.

Alpha-pail

He was the alpha-pail, the one destined to die in the fight for the pack.
Couldn't watch his back all the time, as the strong lay waste to the weak

Soldier

God, don't let Soldier die
in some desert town
no one has ever heard of
he has never heard of
a gas mask on his head
a bullet in his brain.

Measure

What is the measure of a man?
When I feel like inches--
measured in meters.
It just doesn't fit.

Eighteen

"When I was Eighteen, I was prettier then I ever would be again." I don't know who said it, but he was right. I know now what I didn't know then...I am fat and I am ugly. No use writing some sad, mopey poem about it. It is what I am and I can live with it. It's okay, we can't all be beautiful, we can't all be a star.

Nuke Your Friends

Welcome to the 'Nuke your Friends' CD release party.
Problem is... I forgot the CD's or was it the friends?
Doesn't matter...Like my lovely glow?
It's not from sex, it was uranium.

Baby Doll

Baby doll mine,
You have her eyes,
You have her smile,
But you are not her.

Baby doll mine,
You have her tears too.
I know you miss her,
I miss her too.
This grave is all we have left.

I never wanted to be
jack-of-all-trades
But rather master-of-at-least-one.

The E.U.

The Europeaun Union is drafting a new constitution. A new superpower is being born. By May, there will be 25 member states, possibly more in the future. The EURO is already worth more then the dollar. History is being made. Many say, this is the new Roman Empire predicted in the Bible. Is there any truth to that or are people just afraid of change? I seem to think the latter however in the new European policy debate the Commission would operate differently. Only 15 countries at one time would have voting rights. Europe is aiming to have one foreign policy and one defense force. Individual countries may lose their power to veto certain legislation, except in areas of defense, taxation, and foreign policy. Perhaps most interesting, is the President of the Union will be voted in by the leaders of the member states. One can't help but wonder what role this new Europe will take on the world stage and is there room enough for two super powers?

Hellblazer: The Haunted

I finished reading the graphic novel "Hellblazer: The Haunted" last night. It's a horror story (obviously) written by Warren Ellis. Warren is one of my favorite authors. I have a lot to say when it comes to his work. I found this book to be especially frightening. Yet, it wasn't the story that scared me, it was just one simple page. Page 42. Page 42 is the one with the father taking a crack hit on one panel and on another his baby is crawling around the crack house alone, with no diaper, and a puddle that looks like urine underneath him. In the picture, it looks like the baby is dodging piles of crap or vomit. That's not the worst part. Dad knows the baby is gone and doesn't drop the crack and get up to look for him. Instead, he says to John the protagonist, "Oh, and if you see me kid, give us a shout. Yeah?" Forget the damn ghosts, nothing could be more terrifying than the fact that this shit really happens.

Humpty Dumpty

"When I use a word," Humpty Dumpty said, in a rather scornful tone, "it means just what I choose it to mean--neither more or less." -- Lewis Carroll

William Gibson

William Gibson was writing about "cyber space" before it even existed. In fact, he coined the phrase. I won't review any of his books in this post, however his website can be found at: William Gibson. It contains a phenomonal BLOG. (He may stop writing the blog, read it while you still can.) The BIO section is also fascinating, in it he writes: "I suspect I have spent just about exactly as much time actually writing as the average person my age has spent watching television. And that, as much as anything may be the real secret here." Nobius is shutting off the television now.

ON GOD

To the table of belief it seems we bring so much hatred, guilt, and fear. How can we love our neighbors when we hate ourselves? You see, it's less about what or how you believe, and more about what *you* see of God. -Fin-

Smells Like Spirits

The MP3 is playing. Eerie, sad, melancholy. The feelings that well up when I listen to Tori Amos's cover of "Smells like Teen Spirit"...I almost can't put them into words. As I type, the goose bumps form on my arms. A singer who is dead, lives again. "With the lights out, it's less dangerous"--the words echo through my soul. Tori's voice turns the definitive anthem of grunge into something more. Something sultry...sexy...beautiful...spiritual. "Here we are now entertain us..." I saw Tori in concert, shortly after Kurt's death. She said that everytime she plays this song she can feel Kurt's spirit. I think he's here with me now. I feel him too. "Hello, hello, hello." I'm feeling another spirit as well--just as melancholy, just as tortured. Dad, I miss you. The song is ending, I've got to go. "A denial, a denial, a denial." Good night from Barber Town.
